Marles: AI-driven Medicare hack a ‘significant warning’ for Australia and the world

Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles addressed the issue of unauthorised access to Medicare by an OpenAI agent and discussed its global implications. “It is good that China and America are speaking about this issue,” Mr Marles told News24 Political Editor Andrew Clennell. “I’m not about to speculate on the way in which China is developing the technology, other than to say that China is developing the technology. “The technology that we will ultimately use in Australia … is the technology that is being developed by American tech companies, and it really is critically important that that technology is developed in the context of guardrails and security measures. “The last week, whilst the impact was minor, the seriousness of it is that it is a very significant warning, and that warning needs to be heeded.”
