‘Performative theatre’: Credibility for UN hits all-time low

News24 Defence Analyst Peter Jennings says the countries that walked out on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech were taking part in a “performative theatre”. “I thought it was a demonstration of how the United Nations is making itself less relevant to the strategic circumstances in the world,” Mr Jennings said. “All the countries that walked out of Netanyahu’s speech to the General Assembly are engaging in a kind of performative theatre. “[It] undermines whatever remaining credibility exists for the United Nations.”
