News24 Defence Analyst Peter Jennings says Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s government “lacks the confidence” to explain to Australians that there is no “opt-out clause” of a Taiwan war. “We don’t have the option to just shut down shop and say ‘hey this doesn’t matter to us’,” Mr Jennings told News24 host Jaimee Rogers. “I believe that a war would very quickly expand and involve the Philippines and Japan, and a number of other countries, and inevitably Australia will be involved as well. “So we should be preparing more, but I think more seriously our government should be talking to the Australian people to explain what’s going on instead of making preparations with the Americans some ridiculous secret that we’re not supposed to know about.”
