Joint military drills between the US and South Korea cut short following Trump order

South Korea’s Defence Ministry has confirmed its annual joint military drills with the US will be cut short following a request from Washington. One of Seoul’s military training exercises is now expected to end on August 21, six days earlier than proposed under a new request by the US. South Korea’s Foreign Minister told a parliamentary hearing that neither his country nor US officials had been aware of President Donald Trump’s plans. President Trump accused Seoul of refusing to take part in action against Iran as he announced America’s plans to curtail military exercises.
