MSF's new SAFER unit uses information from various agencies to flag child abuse earlier

Child protection professionals in Singapore can now identify high-risk cases and intervene faster, thanks to greater access to case information through a new multi-agency unit. SAFER brings together the Social and Family Development Ministry, the Singapore Police Force and the Central Narcotics Bureau. For a start, it will focus on children under seven years old, where it says vulnerability is highest and detection gaps most acute. This is part of the authorities' plans to strengthen safeguards in child protection, after lapses were discovered last year. Nadine Yeam reports.
