India has distanced itself from former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's planned virtual address, saying the event is being organised by a private media entity and has no government backing. Hasina is due to speak via video link on Wednesday (Aug 5) at an event by the Foreign Correspondents' Club of South Asia in New Delhi. She has been living in self-imposed exile in India since student-led protests toppled her government in August 2024.
