Gastech 2026: LNG prices could rise further amid supply pressures, says JERA CEO

Global liquefied natural gas prices could rise further as buyers head into winter facing low European gas inventories and continued uncertainty over the Strait of Hormuz, according to Yukio Kani, global CEO and chair of JERA, one of the world’s largest LNG buyers and Japan’s largest power generation company. Speaking to CNA’s Roland Lim at Gastech 2026 in Bangkok, Kani also says Japan will need more LNG to meet rising power demand from AI and data centres.
