AI safety: President Trump rejects slowdown and stresses US industry leadership

US President Donald Trump has rejected calls to slow the development of AI, saying he does not want the US to lose its industry leadership. This, in response to an essay published by Anthropic's chief executive - in which he urged companies to scale back the pace of developing increasingly powerful AI models, arguing for closer monitoring and safeguards. China’s state media regards the move as a “Cold War” tactic, aimed at constraining Beijing’s technological rise. AI-linked stocks have fallen across Asia on worries about the billions invested in the sector.
