Yemen ambassador warns of wider war as Houthi attacks disrupt Red Sea

Yemen’s Ambassador to Qatar, Rajeh Hussain Farhan Badi, has warned of escalating tensions in Yemen and the wider Red Sea following attacks by the Houthi movement. In an interview with Al Jazeera’s Osama Bin Javaid, Badi says the Yemeni government has maintained the truce while accusing the Houthis of escalating attacks and seeking control of strategic locations along the Red Sea. The ambassador says the attacks pose a threat to international shipping and vital maritime routes, and accuses the Houthis of acting with Iranian backing. Badi also warns that the conflict could draw Saudi Arabia into a wider confrontation and calls for greater international support for Yemen’s internationally recognised government. He argues that diplomatic options have been exhausted and urges international action against what he describes as an IRGC-backed Houthi militia. The interview comes amid continuing concerns over security in the Red Sea, one of the world’s most important routes for global trade and shipping.
