More than 2,300 ISIL-linked women and children remain trapped in Syria's Roj camp

In northeastern Syria, more than 2,300 women and children are imprisoned in Roj camp as relatives of suspected ISIL fighters and people linked to the armed group. Government sources have told Al Jazeera that their home countries are deliberately ignoring them. Damascus wants to close the camp, but rights groups have called it a "ticking time bomb", where many detainees are vulnerable to the influence of a handful of women linked to ISIL. There are about 50 nationalities represented in the camp, including American, Swiss, British, Italian, Belgian, Turkish, Russian, Chinese and Bosnian. One woman from Sarajevo said: "We are full of the trauma. We lost any hope. We are just waiting to go home." The women interviewed have not been charged with a crime or given the opportunity to present their case in a court of law.
