Diplomatic efforts to end the US-Iran conflict are continuing, with Qatar mediating discussions over a proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says Tehran remains open to a diplomatic solution, but insists the country is prepared for any further military confrontation. The proposal under discussion would see the United States take certain steps on the first day, followed by the reopening of the strategic waterway on the second. Iran has linked the plan to demands including sanctions relief and changes to the US military presence in the region. With the Strait of Hormuz a vital route for global energy supplies, the outcome of the negotiations could have consequences far beyond the region.
