Zelensky, Vance discuss Ukraine air defense needs in 'productive' call

Ukraine is currently experiencing a significant shortage of ammunition for its U.S.-manufactured Patriot systems, which are considered the nation's most effective defense against Russian ballistic missiles. During the call, Zelensky and Vance also addressed the broader impact of Russia's war on international markets.

According to Zelensky, both leaders agreed that their respective teams would maintain close communication and continue collaborative efforts on the matters discussed. Zelensky conveyed his gratitude for the United States' ongoing support for Ukraine and its people.

This conversation follows Zelensky's meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington on July 28. Zelensky characterized the outcomes of that meeting as "positive and productive," noting that discussions included potential licenses for Patriot interceptor production and a renewed diplomatic initiative to end the conflict. Diplomatic engagement between Kyiv and Washington has intensified recently, coinciding with Ukraine's successful strikes on logistical infrastructure supporting Russia's military operations.
