Similarly, World Labs' Marble platform, while showcasing capabilities in media creation, game environments, and CGI effects, appears more focused on demonstrating potential rather than offering a finalized product.

Even suppliers to the burgeoning world model industry, such as data provider Physicl, are often kept in the dark about the specific applications of their data. CEO Alex de Vigan expressed a desire for more information from clients, stating it would enable them to build more useful data.

The versatility of world models, which can be applied to areas ranging from robotics and self-driving systems to manufacturing and biomedicine, contributes to the mystery. This broad applicability, coupled with easy fundraising in the AI sector, allows companies to explore multiple avenues without immediate pressure to focus on a single commercial path. However, this also means that as soon as a clear path to market emerges, companies risk attracting significant competition from rivals, including other world model labs and major AI players like OpenAI and Anthropic. The current environment encourages a "dark forest" strategy, where companies remain quiet to avoid attracting attention from potential competitors until they are ready to launch.
