Ukraine launched a large-scale drone attack on the Moscow Oblast, with Russia's Defense Ministry reporting that its forces shot down a total of 1,110 Ukrainian drones across the country, including over the peninsula of Crimea and the waters of the Black Sea. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin stated that 450 drones had been destroyed en route to the Russian capital, and that the attack had damaged the Moscow Oil Refinery and a residential building.
Regional governor Andrey Vorobyov said in a post to Telegram that at least five people were killed and 10 injured in an attack on an industrial area in the Chekhov district, south of the capital. The impact set several fires in an industrial zone, with damage also done to an administrative building and an electrical substation. Vorobyov also reported damage to a home and a vehicle in the village of Solnyshkovo.
Leningrad governor Aleksandr Drozdenko said in posts to Telegram that at least 17 Ukrainian drones were shot down over his region, noting that a facility of one of Russia's largest online retailers, Wildberries, was among those damaged. Another Wildberries facility was also attacked in the Tver region.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy hailed the strike as a push for Russia to "end its brutal war and choose peace," stating that "key enterprises of the Russian Federation's oil industry and an aggressor's logistics facility have been struck."
