Ukraine's military intelligence agency (HUR) reported on October 28 that Russia is constructing a new facility for operating attack drones near Millerovo airfield in Rostov Oblast, close to the Ukrainian border. The airfield is located in Dolotinka village, approximately 20 kilometers east of Ukraine's Luhansk Oblast. HUR indicated the site's design suggests it is intended for Geran-4 and Geran-5 jet-powered attack drones. The agency estimates the facility could support up to 100 drone launches daily once operational, potentially as part of preparations for intensified attacks on Ukraine during winter. The construction pace is attributed to the use of pre-existing technical solutions. The new site's proximity to Millerovo airfield could allow it to leverage existing air defense systems, road networks, utilities, and logistical support. Russia is also upgrading its drone capabilities, with the Geran-4 featuring enhanced autonomous navigation and a new warhead. The expansion of this launch site adds to Russia's network, which already includes at least 12 such facilities. The drones' extended range poses a threat to Ukraine and potentially to neighboring countries.
