The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on July 29 that Russia has lost approximately 1,443,450 troops since the beginning of its full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022. This figure includes 1,310 casualties reported in the past day.
In addition to personnel losses, the report detailed significant equipment losses for Russian forces, including 12,227 tanks, 25,044 armored combat vehicles, 46,962 artillery systems, and 432,778 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The Ukrainian General Staff has not disclosed its own losses, citing operational secrecy.
Independent Western think-tank reports suggest that Russian casualties are substantially higher than Ukraine's. The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) has estimated the ratio of Russian to Ukrainian losses to be between 2:1 and 2.5:1. A January 2026 CSIS report indicated that Ukraine likely suffered between 500,000 and 600,000 casualties from February 2022 to December 2025, with 100,000 to 140,000 of those estimated to be killed in action.
