Representatives Hank Johnson of Georgia and Deborah Ross of California suggested impeaching Attorney General Todd Blanche after Democrats won the House and Senate, according to the primary report. The report did not date the suggestion.
Representative Jamie Raskin, who is set to lead the House Judiciary Committee, told MS NOW that Blanche could face impeachment hearings when Democrats take back the gavel in January. Raskin said that under Blanche's leadership the Department of Justice had become a "Department of Injustice."
Speaking on MS NOW's postmidterms primetime special on Wednesday, Raskin said voters he met on the campaign trail repeatedly expressed concern about the DOJ's "constant interference in the election." He said: "I would always say, in the final analysis, that our best insurance policy against a stolen election is a landslide election."
Raskin pointed to the department's election interference efforts, Blanche's inaction in the Jeffrey Epstein case and what he described as the DOJ's pursuit of the president's perceived political enemies, including several of Raskin's Democratic colleagues in the House and Senate. He named James Comey, Letitia James, Adam Schiff, Mark Kelly, Maggie Goodlander and Jason Crow among those he said faced fraudulent prosecutions.
Raskin argued that Blanche had put his loyalty to Trump ahead of his responsibilities serving the American public, which he said could be grounds for impeachment. He said: "This attorney general has been doing nothing other than acting in his old capacity as a personal criminal defense attorney to Donald Trump."
