Garcia's inquiry follows a ProPublica report detailing that Kremlev, described as an associate of Russian President Vladimir Putin, spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on two nights of wedding celebrations for Trump Jr. and his wife, Bettina. The couple confirmed Kremlev's financial involvement, calling it a "generous wedding gift" and "apolitical."
The investigation is part of the House Oversight Committee Democrats' broader examination of the Trump family's alleged enrichment since President Donald Trump took office. Garcia specifically asked for details on communications between Trump Jr. and Kremlev, any communications with the White House about Kremlev, financial records of purchases by foreign nationals, and a complete list of wedding gifts from foreign nationals.
