Trafigura has secured a $1.5 billion, five-year loan to support a new contract to supply over 150 TWh of natural gas to Germany's Securing Energy for Europe (SEFE). The deal, effective November 1, 2026, increases annual gas deliveries to 30 TWh from the current 23 TWh. The loan agreement benefits from a guarantee under Germany's Untied Loan Guarantee (UFK) program, designed to ensure the long-term supply of strategic commodities. SEFE's chief commercial officer, Frédéric Barnaud, stated that such partnerships enhance their ability to source gas from diverse origins and maintain reliable energy provision for customers. Germany is actively working to bolster its gas reserves ahead of winter, with storage levels currently below optimal capacity, raising concerns about supply security.
