The retrial for Roman Storm, a developer associated with the cryptocurrency mixer Tornado Cash, has been rescheduled to April 26, 2027. U.S. District Judge Katherine Polk Failla granted the postponement, citing Storm's pending motion for acquittal and his subsequent request for a continuance. Storm's legal team argued they would require at least 90 days after a ruling on the acquittal motion to prepare for a new trial, a request prosecutors opposed.
Storm was convicted in August 2025 on one charge of conspiring to operate an unlicensed money-transmitting business, an offense that carries a potential five-year prison sentence. However, the jury was unable to reach unanimous verdicts on two other charges: conspiracy to commit money laundering and conspiracy to violate U.S. sanctions. Storm has since filed a motion seeking acquittal on all charges, asserting that prosecutors failed to demonstrate his intent to facilitate criminal misuse of Tornado Cash.
