Superior Ag has officially opened its new 32,000-ton dry fertilizer terminal on the Ohio River in Rockport, Indiana. The facility, which includes a ribbon-cutting ceremony and community open house, is designed to enhance logistics and provide greater flexibility for serving farmers in southwestern Indiana, northern Kentucky, and surrounding regions.
According to CEO Richard Lloyd, the terminal's direct river access allows for efficient receipt of fertilizer via barges, potentially mitigating the impact of price volatility caused by global events such as the war with Iran and the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Lloyd emphasized that the facility strengthens Superior Ag's ability to receive, store, and distribute crop nutrients, aiming to provide members with access to competitively priced products for decades.
The state-of-the-art terminal features modern unloading, storage, and handling capabilities. It is expected to be fully operational within the next couple of weeks, with the first barges scheduled to arrive shortly.
