Key facts
- Sui's programmable offchain tunnels reached 40.6 million transactions per second.
- The test simulated high-frequency activity between AI agents.
- Over 10,000 tunnels were opened on Sui mainnet during the test.
The layer-1 blockchain Sui processed 40.6 million transactions per second during a live stress test simulating high-frequency activity between AI agents. The test, conducted at Sui Basecamp in Singapore, saw over 10,000 programmable offchain tunnels opened, settling transactions for payments, games, and chat applications.
The test demonstrates Sui's potential to scale for future applications involving numerous AI agents transacting at high frequencies, which could impact the development and adoption of AI-driven services and decentralized applications.
The layer-1 blockchain Sui announced that its programmable offchain tunnels achieved a throughput of 40.6 million transactions per second during a live stress test. This milestone, reached on Wednesday at Sui Basecamp in Singapore, significantly surpassed its previous record of approximately 6.1 million TPS set in July.
The test was designed to simulate high-frequency activity, particularly interactions between AI agents, demonstrating Sui's capability to handle such demands without requiring every transaction to be processed directly on the mainnet. The programmable offchain tunnels act as channels that settle to the Sui blockchain upon closure. During the demonstration, over 10,000 tunnels were opened on the Sui mainnet, facilitating transactions for various applications including payments, games, and chat services.
Adeniyi Abiodun, co-founder and chief product officer at Mysten Labs, the original contributor to Sui, stated that the blockchain is built for a future where millions of AI agents transact daily, noting that human transaction speeds do not compare to those of agents. CertiK is serving as an independent auditor for the test data, with a report expected in the coming days.
