DATA Network, previously known as Story, is set to retire its independent blockchain and migrate its AI training data protocol to the Sui ecosystem. This strategic move is bolstered by a $30 million investment from the Sui Foundation. The project's Trace registry, launched in June, will be integrated into Sui, while Walrus, a decentralized storage platform within Sui, will serve as the primary storage solution for applications operated by DATA Foundation and its partners. The decision was driven by Sui's capacity for millions of daily data registrations and Walrus's ability to store extensive AI training datasets. DATA Network will continue to operate until the upgrade is finalized, with a detailed timeline and transition plan to be released prior to the upgrade. The Story Protocol initially focused on intellectual property licensing before pivoting in June to develop a comprehensive platform for AI training data, rebranding as DATA Foundation and launching the Trace registry for AI data provenance and licensing.
