At least 72 Sudanese artisanal miners were killed in an airstrike on Saturday, according to Emergency Lawyers, a rights monitor. The strike occurred at a gold mine in the Border Triangle Area between Sudan, Egypt, and Libya.
A separate drone strike killed at least 40 people, including children, according to a Sudanese rights group. At least 28 others were wounded in the airstrike, the Sudan Doctors Network reported.
The medical group stated that the death toll is likely to increase due to serious injuries and limited access to healthcare facilities. A survivor told the Associated Press that an unknown aircraft struck the artisanal gold mine on Saturday morning. Egyptian authorities had reportedly warned miners to evacuate the area, which is said to be part of Egypt.
