Stellantis is expected to produce around 450,000 vehicles in Italy this year, a figure that represents a rebound after two years of decline but falls short of initial expectations, according to the FIM Cisl union. The automaker assembled 340,745 vehicles in the first nine months of the year, marking a 28% increase compared to the same period in the previous year.
This recovery is attributed to the introduction of new models, including the Jeep Compass SUV and the hybrid Fiat 500, as well as a strong performance from the Fiat Panda. The union anticipates that additional new models entering production will further support output in the final months of the year.
However, the output of the hybrid Fiat 500, a crucial component of the anticipated recovery, is now projected to reach only about 60,000 vehicles this year, significantly below Stellantis' original target of 100,000 units. Repeated production stoppages, stemming from shortages of engine components and weaker-than-expected demand, have impacted the Fiat 500's production levels, the union stated.
Last year, Stellantis produced just under 380,000 vehicles in Italy, including 213,706 passenger cars, which was the lowest level recorded since 1954.
