South Korean companies and global technology firms have agreed to collaborate on artificial intelligence projects valued at $950 billion, with the goal of positioning South Korea as a significant player in the AI chip supply chain. President Lee Jae Myung articulated this vision, stating that the current AI era offers a unique opportunity for South Korea to transition from a follower to a global leader.
During a meeting in San Francisco with venture capitalists from firms including Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital, and General Catalyst, President Lee emphasized the need to broaden the U.S.-South Korea relationship beyond its traditional security alliance to encompass technology, innovation, and startups. He highlighted the potential for combining U.S. venture capital and global networks with South Korea's advanced technology and manufacturing capabilities to foster new global innovators.
Lee expressed his commitment to creating an optimal environment for investment and startups, including reforms to the visa system to attract foreign talent. He also pledged to facilitate connections between South Korean companies, research institutions, and investors, both domestically and internationally, to foster innovation and growth over the next three decades.
