Trinamool Congress MP Shatrughan Sinha on Thursday publicly reaffirmed his loyalty to party chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, asserting he would not abandon her during difficult times. His statements came shortly after he posted a message on X congratulating Prime Minister Narendra Modi on completing 12 years in office.
Speaking to PTI, Sinha stated, “Mamata Banerjee stood by me in my difficult time. I will not leave Mamata Banerjee in her difficult time.” His social media post for Modi read, “In true sportsman spirit, wishing our friend & guide of society/nation hon’ble PM Narendra Modi best wishes on completing 12yrs in office, perhaps the longest tenure, ever. Wish you a long, healthy & prosperous life ahead. Jai Hind!”
Meanwhile, internal party differences within the TMC were highlighted by another senior leader, Kalyan Banerjee. He expressed his stance on the legal handling of a CID case involving Abhishek Banerjee, the party's national general secretary and MP. Kalyan Banerjee, who is also a senior advocate, stated he told Mamata Banerjee, “Choose between me and Abhishek Banerjee,” after withdrawing from a Calcutta High Court case related to Abhishek Banerjee.
