US secret service officers took a man into custody near the White House on Thursday night after finding him in a parked car with multiple guns, the agency said in a Homeland Security statement. Officers approached the man after he was seen acting suspiciously, according to the statement.
The suspect, Ronny Yordrix Guanipa Chrinos, described voices in his head telling him to come to the nation's capital and kill Donald Trump, US officials said. Officers then found the vehicle had been reported stolen and that he had three firearms and dozens of rounds of ammunition.
The statement described Chrinos as an immigrant from Venezuela who entered the US through Texas in March 2024 and is in the country illegally. DHS said he had been charged and was in US Marshals Service custody. The White House did not comment and referred questions to DHS and the secret service.
The arrest is the latest in a series of detentions by the secret service and other law enforcement agencies of individuals accused of threatening Trump or his family since he returned to office last year, according to the report.
