Seattle-based energy startup Endurance Energy has achieved a significant milestone by successfully generating net-positive energy from its underwater geothermal plant, a technology that aims to harness power from undersea volcanoes. The company announced on September 27 that it completed a full operational cycle, producing power for less than 10 seconds, which it considers a critical proof of concept. This achievement could pave the way for round-the-clock clean energy for cities on the northwest coast of the United States and other regions along the Pacific Ring of Fire. The system demonstrated remote control capabilities from an offshore location. Endurance Energy plans to build larger 2-megawatt commercial generators in Tonga, with the first project expected to deploy up to six container-sized generators.
