Data centre developer SB Energy, backed by SoftBank Group, intends to sell up to $500 million in shares to Japanese investors as part of its planned U.S. initial public offering. The funds raised will be allocated to general operating costs for developing data centers, power generation, and related infrastructure projects, according to a filing.
While the size of the U.S. IPO was not disclosed, SoftBank may seek a valuation of $50 billion for SB Energy, Reuters has reported. In a significant development, chipmaker Nvidia has committed to investing $1.5 billion in a private placement at the IPO price. Additionally, OpenAI has been issued warrants valued at approximately $5.5 billion, as detailed in SB Energy's investment prospectus released earlier in September. The company's move follows a trend of public listings for artificial intelligence-related firms, with SpaceX having listed in June and Anthropic preparing for its own IPO later this year. Japanese investors had previously secured $2.2 billion of SpaceX shares during its IPO.
