In parallel, Ukraine is advancing its own missile capabilities. President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that Ukrainian-made ballistic missiles, developed by Fire Point, could be combat-ready within two to three months, with larger models potentially ready by late fall. Zelensky noted that while some components are sourced internationally, the development is largely Ukrainian.
Separately, Ukraine has purchased a significant defense package from Turkey, including 70 ATACMS missiles, 12 MLRS, cluster munitions, and howitzer rounds. This transfer was approved by the U.S. State Department.
On August 8, Ukrainian drones reportedly struck a Russian S-400 anti-aircraft missile launch pad in Russia's Krasnodar region, hours after it had fired missiles at Ukraine. Commander Robert Brovdi, known as "Madyar," claimed responsibility for the strike.
Earlier, on August 8, Russia conducted an overnight attack on Kyiv and its surrounding region, killing four people, including a three-year-old child, and injuring eight others. The attacks damaged residential buildings and other structures.
