Russian forces attacked the Ukrainian capital Kyiv with missiles early Tuesday, triggering fires in the city center and causing casualties in Zaporizhzhia, officials reported. Russia's Defence Ministry stated that its forces carried out overnight strikes on military-related transport and logistics centers in Kyiv and on a major iron and steel works in Zaporizhzhia, which it claimed was helping Ukraine's war effort.
Ukrainian officials confirmed that the attacks killed six people and injured 20 in the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia. In Kyiv, the attacks triggered fires. Both sides deny deliberately targeting civilians.
The Russian Defence Ministry specified that it hit the Nova Poshta sorting complex in Kyiv, which it alleged handled dual-use goods including components for long- and medium-range drones, as well as robotic systems and electronic warfare equipment. It also claimed to have struck the Kyiv-3 transport and logistics centre, described as a large warehouse complex storing attack drones and control stations.
In Zaporizhzhia, the ministry said its strikes hit the Zaporizhstal metallurgical plant, a producer of flat-rolled steel used for military vehicle armor and body armor plates. The ministry also reported intercepting or destroying 396 Ukrainian drones over 15 regions overnight.
