A ruptured industrial reservoir at Tajikistan's Rogun Dam sent water rushing into a construction tunnel on October 21, according to officials. While the State Service for the Supervision of Industrial and Mining Safety stated that workers from subcontractor Sino Hydro were caught in the stream of process water, they insisted that no one was hurt and all returned to work after first aid. However, witnesses cited by Radio Ozodi on October 27 suggested a more serious incident occurred on October 22, with more than five workers injured and some trapped under rubble. The incident raises fresh safety concerns at the megaproject, which has an opaque safety record. Tajikistan reported 46 industrial accidents in 2025, resulting in 40 deaths and 27 injuries.
