Argentina's Profertil reported a 16% year-on-year increase in urea production for the first half of 2026, reaching 617,000 tons. This rise, according to its 90% shareholder Adecoagro, was primarily due to a higher number of operational days compared to the same period in 2025, when operations were halted for 31 days because of a flood affecting gas supplies. In the second quarter of 2026, Profertil produced 340,000 tons of urea, up from 279,000 tons in the second quarter of 2025. Despite the production increase, urea sales in the first six months of 2026 were 404,000 tons, down from 433,000 tons in the prior year. Urea revenues, however, saw a significant 30% jump to $250 million in the first half of 2026, compared to $192 million a year earlier. This revenue growth was driven by a spike in international urea prices, influenced by the Iran war and subsequent constriction of Middle Eastern shipments. Profertil's plant, the only urea facility in Argentina, has a granular urea capacity of 1.3 million tons per year. Meanwhile, Pampa Energia intends to develop a competing urea facility with a capacity of 2.1 million tons per year in Bahia Blanca within approximately 40 months.
