The UK's Pensions Dashboard initiative, designed to consolidate all pension pots into a single digital view, faces a critical deadline for provider connection on October 31, 2026. While this connection deadline remains unchanged, the mandatory daily reporting deadline for schemes to submit operational data to the Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) has been extended to March 1, 2027. This extension was prompted by industry feedback citing significant uncertainty and cascading delays at the Integrated Service Provider (ISP) level, which could prevent smaller schemes from connecting on time.
Despite the reporting extension, pension providers and schemes must still ensure they are connected to the dashboard ecosystem by the October 2026 deadline. Failure to connect can result in penalties of up to £5,000 for individual trustees and £50,000 for corporate trustees. The Pensions Dashboards Programme (PDP) acknowledged the industry's concerns about compressed timelines and lack of contingency, leading to the three-month pushback for daily reporting. However, the core obligation for schemes to be able to receive find requests and return matching results within 60 seconds by the connection deadline is unaffected.
The Pensions Dashboard aims to address the issue of millions of people having forgotten or lost track of pension pots due to job changes. Once live, it will display state pension forecasts, current and previous workplace pensions, and personal pensions, along with provider contact details. The initial version will be view-only, with features like consolidation and retirement projections expected to be added later, potentially through private-sector dashboards.
