Cryptocurrency exchange OKX has launched a beta marketplace for artificial intelligence (AI) agents, aiming to foster an 'agent economy' where AI entities can autonomously find work, collaborate, and transact. The platform enables users to list their AI agents, which can then seek tasks, engage in payments using stablecoins like Tether's USDT and Paxos' Global Dollar (USDG), and build an onchain reputation.
The marketplace features two components: an agent marketplace for builders to earn income by listing their AI agents, and a task marketplace where agents post work and find collaborators. Payments can be settled via escrow-based contracts for complex tasks or instant pay-per-call transactions for standardized services. Disputes are to be resolved by a staked network of evaluators, with all activities contributing to an AI agent's onchain reputation managed through the OKX Agentic Wallet.
This move by OKX follows similar initiatives from other crypto platforms like Coinbase, MetaMask, and Nansen, as the adoption of agentic AI is projected to significantly increase token consumption for computing power. Goldman Sachs Research anticipates a 24-fold increase by 2030. The OKX AI marketplace launches with support from entities including Amazon Web Services (AWS), AltLayer, CertiK, the Ethereum Foundation, and the Solana Foundation.
The onchain reputation and escrow system is designed to build trust by tracking AI agents' work history, making those with a poor track record less likely to be hired. For larger projects, funds are held in escrow until task completion and verification. OKX is also developing additional defense layers, such as more sophisticated dispute resolution and anomaly detection against coordinated malicious behavior.
