US nonfarm payroll employment rose by 165,000 in October and the unemployment rate changed little at 4.1%, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported on November 6, 2026. The bureau said employment increased in professional and business services, in health care, and in transportation and warehousing.
HousingWire reported that the 10-year Treasury yield closed at 4.86% and mortgage rates ended the day flat at 7.17%, and said the jobs data did not push either higher. The outlet attributed the day's moves in yields to AI stock prices, citing CoreWeave's stock trading up 10% pre-market before turning almost negative, with bond yields following.
HousingWire also said residential construction employment, which it calls one of its recession indicators, has not shown the clear downtrend seen in previous cycles, with builders doing more rate buydowns and remodeling work holding up. The outlet said the unemployment rate has fallen from 4.5% last year to 4.1%, and that it puts the break-even monthly job count at 78,000, against 33,000 for the Fed and zero for some economists.
