Cloud provider Nscale is acquiring AI software startup Anyscale for approximately $1.65 billion, aiming to enhance its capabilities in managing and scaling AI workloads for clients. Anyscale, founded by the creators of the open-source Project Ray framework, specializes in helping companies run large-scale AI tasks, including training and serving large language models, data curation, and inferencing.
The acquisition aligns with Nscale's strategy of vertical integration, encompassing energy, data centers, orchestration software, and now workload management. Anyscale stated that the combined entity can co-design the software layer and infrastructure more effectively. Nscale, which raised $2 billion in a Series C round valuing it at $14.6 billion, has investors including Nvidia and Dell, and has secured partnerships with Microsoft and British Telecom.
Anyscale, previously valued at $1.38 billion in 2022, reported a 70% sequential revenue increase in its latest quarter. Following the acquisition, Anyscale will retain its brand and continue serving its existing customers, with its approximately 200 employees joining Nscale.
