Nikita Bier is stepping down as the head of product at X, the social media platform owned by Elon Musk. Bier announced his departure on Wednesday, stating that he would transition to an advisory role after a year in the demanding position.
"Ladies and gentlemen, it's time to pass the torch and demote myself to my natural state: a poster," Bier wrote in an X post. He described his tenure as "the privilege of a lifetime" but noted that running the app has been a "24/7 undertaking." He expressed a need to "take a breather" and thanked Musk, along with executives Benji Taylor (head of design), Mridul Singhai (product team lead), and Jonah Katz (iOS lead), stating the app would be in good hands.
Bier joined X in July 2025, having previously expressed a desire to lead product for the platform. During his time, he continued to engage with users by sharing tips on how to better utilize the app, including strategies for earning money on X. In a February podcast appearance, Bier described X's organizational structure under Musk as "very flat," with weekly reviews and significant agency for employees, allowing for rapid product development.
