Independent energy firm NatPower and Tesla have announced a deal to construct 25 gigawatt hours of battery storage capacity in Italy and Britain. This agreement represents the initial phase of a larger initiative projected to cost between $4 billion and $5 billion and potentially generate over $15 billion in revenue within 20 years.
The collaboration aims to address Europe's growing need for battery storage solutions to manage the intermittent nature of renewable energy sources. Under the multiyear agreement, NatPower will deploy Tesla's Megapack battery storage systems and utilize its electricity trading technology to optimize buying and selling power.
This first phase will involve the construction of five projects. The overall program intends to surpass 100 GWh of storage capacity. Fabrizio Zago, CEO of NatPower, stated that the partnership creates an ecosystem aligning capital with execution, which can be replicated in other markets.
