Moldova's President Maia Sandu has nominated Vasile Tofan, a 44-year-old financier and senior partner at Horizon Capital, as the country's next Prime Minister. The nomination, announced by Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, comes after the resignation of Alexandru Munteanu earlier this month.
Tofan, who previously supported President Sandu in the 2024 presidential election, is tasked with accelerating Moldova's integration into the European Union and reviving its economy. His mandate also includes strengthening the resilience of state institutions and society. Tofan, a Harvard Business School graduate with a degree in public management, has also chaired the board of Moldova's Purcari winery.
Upon receiving the presidential decree, Tofan will have two weeks to secure parliamentary backing for his government program and ministerial cabinet nominations. Munteanu resigned after less than eight months in office, citing differences with the ruling majority.
