Meta Platforms has lost its appeals against interim measures imposed by French regulators concerning media organizations' publishing rights, the Paris Court of Appeals said on Thursday. The court rejected Meta's appeals against decisions made by France's competition authority in July, which had required the company to resume talks with media groups, provide information on social media platform revenue and the use of protected content, and not degrade the display of press content. The court concluded that Meta's practices regarding payments for 'neighboring rights' to press publishers may constitute an abuse of a dominant position under European and French competition law. A previous agreement between Meta and press associations expired in 2024, and French media have reportedly received no payment since 2025.
