Mercedes-Benz is preparing a broader strategy update for 2030 and beyond, with China to remain a central pillar of its long-term plans, CEO Ola Källenius said. The German automaker plans to provide a more comprehensive strategic update next year, including a detailed review of its China business, after a downturn in the world's biggest auto market weighed on earnings. Källenius described China as an indispensable market and innovation hub, even as the company reassesses its operating model there due to market weakness. Finance chief Harald Wilhelm stated Mercedes aims to become less dependent on profit pools from China by localizing its supply chain. The company also plans further investments in the US to increase annual sales towards 400,000 vehicles. In Germany, Mercedes is stepping up efforts to improve competitiveness, booking about €1.8 billion in provisions related to a previous voluntary severance program in 2025.
