Two regional officials, speaking anonymously, indicated that mediators, including Qatar and Pakistan, are working to bridge the divide between Washington and Tehran and restore a provisional ceasefire. This respite follows nearly two weeks of exchanges that heightened fears of a full-scale war.
During the weekend, neither the US nor Iran reported conducting attacks, marking three consecutive days without strikes. This follows a period of sustained bombings. The US had previously struck Iranian coastal areas and infrastructure after Iran's actions against vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil shipping route. Saudi Arabia announced it had intercepted drones targeting oil facilities in its eastern region and the capital, Riyadh.
Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei stated that while mediators are relaying messages from the US, direct negotiations are not occurring.
