Copenhaver was in the bleachers at the June rally when a 20-year-old gunman opened fire from a rooftop. The bullet grazed Trump's ear, and Copenhaver was struck in the arm and abdomen, sustaining injuries that required multiple surgeries and left him with lingering health issues.
Another attendee, Corey Comperatore, was killed in the attack, while David Dutch survived his injuries. Copenhaver died Wednesday at Allegheny Health Network’s West Penn hospital, according to the Allegheny county medical examiner.
His lawyer, Joseph Feldman, stated that Copenhaver died surrounded by loved ones, but the statement did not specify if his death was directly linked to the injuries he sustained at the rally. In June, Copenhaver and his wife sued the federal government, alleging that the Secret Service and Department of Homeland Security failed to provide adequate security at the event.
