A 15-year-old boy and 43-year-old William Lunnon have been charged with murder following the death of 12-year-old Bobby Bloomfield in Brentwood. The incident occurred on Ashwells Road shortly before 17:40 BST on Sunday, where Bobby sustained serious injuries and later died in hospital.
Both charged individuals have been remanded in custody and are scheduled to appear in court on Thursday. The 15-year-old boy cannot be named for legal reasons.
Essex Police also arrested two men, aged 65 and 54, and two women, aged 65 and 45, all from the Pilgrims Hatch area, on suspicion of perverting the course of justice. They remain in custody.
Detective Chief Inspector Greg Wood stated that the investigation is complex but has made significant progress, with charges brought and further arrests made. The focus remains on establishing the full circumstances and supporting Bobby's family. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing that even small details could be helpful.
Bobby Bloomfield was a pupil at Shenfield High School, which expressed deep sadness and offered condolences to his family, stating they are supporting their community during this difficult time. Police had previously appealed for CCTV footage from the area between 08:00 and 19:00 on Sunday.
