A fire that broke out early Thursday morning in a residential building in the tourist area of Magaluf on the Spanish island of Mallorca has resulted in two fatalities and several injuries. Authorities reported that nine people were hospitalized for smoke inhalation.
The blaze reportedly started around 5 a.m. on the third floor of the building. Residents attempted to fight the flames before they spread, leading to the evacuation of approximately 20 people. Firefighters worked for about two hours to extinguish the fire. Four individuals remained hospitalized.
One of the deceased was identified as a 58-year-old Argentine citizen, while the other victim was an unidentified woman. The Civil Guard is investigating the cause of the fire. Magaluf is a popular destination for young British and German tourists, located 22 kilometers west of Palma de Mallorca.
