A Malaysian mother of two, Siti Iqbar Mazlan, 35, broke down in tears in the Melaka Sharia High Court as she begged for leniency after being caught attempting to have sex with another woman's husband. She apologized to the wife, Puteri Norfatimah Ishak, 25, and expressed deep regret for her actions.
Siti Iqbar and Hairul Mokhsin Zaini, 24, were charged under Section 52 of the Sharia Offences (State of Melaka) Enactment 1991 for attempting unlawful sexual intercourse with a partner who was not their spouse. The incident allegedly occurred between June 1 and 30, 2025, around 2 a.m. at a house in Kampung Sungai Putat, Batu Berendam.
Both accused pleaded guilty. Siti Iqbar, who is married, requested no prison sentence, citing her need to support two children and her shame over the case, which led to estrangement from her family and ostracization by siblings. She stated she had been out of work for four months.
Hairul Mokhsin also expressed regret and repentance. He mentioned a past criminal record for abetting an out-of-wedlock pregnancy case, for which he was fined RM2,500 or sentenced to 15 days in prison in September 2023. He also requested leniency, citing his need to support his two young children and his wife, who runs a nasi lemak business, and noted his irregular income as a food delivery person.
The prosecution requested appropriate punishment for both accused as a lesson and to prevent recurrence, highlighting Hairul Mokhsin's past criminal record.
Ultimately, the court ruled that Hairul Mokhsin would be fined RM5,000 or serve eight months in prison if he failed to pay, and Siti Iqbar would be fined RM4,500 or serve eight months in prison if she failed to pay.
