Malaysia has received its first two FA-50M light combat aircraft from South Korea, marking a significant step in strengthening the country's air defence capabilities. The jets arrived at RMAF Labuan base on Friday, October 30, 2026, after transiting from South Korea. Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin stated that the acquisition is part of an 18-unit deal signed with Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) in 2023. The FA-50M aircraft are intended to replace the Royal Malaysian Air Force's ageing Hawk aircraft, which are scheduled for decommissioning in 2028. Full delivery of all 18 units is expected by March 2028, with six aircraft anticipated by April 2027. The FA-50M is a two-seat aircraft capable of both advanced pilot training and light combat missions, including air-to-air and air-to-ground operations. Personnel have completed training in South Korea, and the new aircraft will be operated by No. 15 Squadron.
