Patrick Clancy and his current wife, Rachel Danis, are set to share their experiences of the Massachusetts triple-murder trial of Patrick’s former wife, Lindsay Clancy, in their first public comments on the case. The interviews will air on 60 Minutes.
Prosecutors are expected to decide later this month whether to retry Lindsay Clancy over the January 2023 killings of their three young children: Cora, five; Dawson, three; and Callan, eight months old. A hearing is scheduled for September 29 at Plymouth Superior Court.
The trial earlier this summer captivated public attention and ended in a mistrial when one juror, Michael Desronvil, rejected the defense's argument that Lindsay Clancy was suffering from postpartum psychosis and therefore not criminally responsible. Desronvil later stated that evidence presented at trial proved Clancy knew what she was doing and planned the killings.
Patrick Clancy, who testified for the prosecution but has supported his former wife, has been the subject of intense speculation and conspiracy theories from online content creators. His attorney, Howard Cooper, recently threatened legal action against those engaged in a "relentless, escalating and destructive defamation campaign" against his client.
In excerpts released ahead of the broadcast, Patrick Clancy discusses his grief, memories of his children, and the conspiracy theories. He told correspondent Ross Douthat he still talks to his children and believes they help him. Clancy, who discovered his children and his injured wife after she fell from a second-story window and is now paralyzed from the waist down, stated, “I think I did the best I could with what I had at the time, and I live with the outcome. I live with it every day, but I think I did the best I could.”
The Clancys had repeatedly sought psychiatric care for Lindsay Clancy in the months leading up to the incident. They have since filed a civil lawsuit alleging negligence and over-prescription of medications by two health professionals and healthcare providers.
Danis, an infertility specialist, defended Patrick Clancy against the online theories, describing him as a "selfless father and supportive partner." She also shared details of how she met Patrick and their marriage earlier this year.
